Misho Bonsai NewsTemperature fluctutations : Tree seeds mayhem ![]() Well, I must admit, recent temperature fluctuations got me scared a bit for my little last year seedlings and sheltered bonsai. We been having temperature variation making trees confuse about what season we are in. One week, we get full sun with temperature averaging 8-10 degrees Celsius, which is very bad, this early in the season. Anything over 5 degrees Celsius will take a tree out of dormancy and buds will start to swell. Our famous Ottawa region tulips have shown their colors last week. The problem is that the following week we get minus 20-25 celsius. This will cause buds that have swollen to freeze and die, and water in trunk and branches to freeze and branch to be swollen and possibly killing the tree. Well, back to the store, we got restock on many species, including Acer palmatum atropurpureum (Red Japanese maple), Pinus thunbergiana short needles (Short needles Japanese black pine) and Pinus Parviflora (Japanese white pine) and many others. We are introducing four new tree seeds species, which are: Ligustrum Obtusifolium (Regal Privet), Jacaranda mimosifolia (Blue Jacaranda), Murraya Panniculata (Orange Jasmine) and Schefflera Arboricola (Hawaiian Schefflera). The first two are immediately in stock, while the last two will be in stock in 1-2 weeks. Regal privet often qualified as invasive in many US states for some reasons, but makes a nice bonsai candidate for the same reasons, as it?s a fast grower and is pretty tolerant too bad treatment and poor growing conditions. Blue Jacaranda is world famous for its long lasting lavender blue flowers and it?s fern like foliage. Orange Jasmine is popular for is very fragrant white flowers smelling like her name suggest, orange. Although this one is more a vine then a tree, this one can be modeled to a nice small bonsai, and makes it the perfect candidate for a large specimen. Hawaiian Schefflera is often sold as an house plant in garden center, this plant also makes a nice indoor bonsai. You can accelerate it?s development by gradually introducing it to the exterior in summer and bringing it back inside in autumn. Well that?s it for now Patrick News for Tuesday 26 December, 2006 View all news for Tuesday 26 December, 2006 on one page Recent News
