Seeds, Seeds and new tree Seeds

Japanese white Pine Bonsai

We got a new shipment of tree seeds. This time we got the following:
  • Pinus Parviflora - Japanese White Pine
  • Larix Kaempferi/Leptolepis - Japanese Larch
  • Ulmus Parvifolia - Chinese elm
As everytime, we are excited when we receive the new batch of tree seeds. Some seeds order have to be made a few months before because of the popularity and rareness of the specie. Another factor is crop failure. Some crop do not pass the cut germination test or dont even germinate at all. Tree seeds are a trivial process sometime.

This year, I did not loose any tree to the cold winter. I had a trident maple who tought was dead but was showing certain signs that it was alive. While no leaves emerge from the trunk and branches in spring, I try to scratch the bark of the tree and the cambium was real green. If i would break a small overgrown branch, the cambium was laso green, even the brnach tip. So I continued to water it like a normal tree, and 2 weeks ago it started making leaves. The leaves are very small allready, much like it was pushing if second sets of buds to to grow after a defoliation. Im still not sure what happened, but i suspect the buds had frozen and a dormant sets of buds as just emerged. Anyhow, im happy, I didnt loose the tree.
