Fagus crenata - Japanese Beech

This species is famous for is beautiful forest grouping bonsai but is also capable of very bonsai worthy alone tree. As the tree gets older, the bark gets a light whitish-grey coloration. A specific characteristic of the beech family is that they keep their leaves, dry, in winter. The leaves are kept to protect the following spring buds. This specific species, crenata, is love for it's smaller stature and leaves then other beeches.
