Carpinus Betulus - European Hornbeam

This species tolerate very well shade but will grow much more dense under sunlight. Beautiful tree with a smooth, gray and fluted bark. Fall color of the leaves is orange to reddish. Eurpean hornbeam is one of the only tree to retain some of it's leaves in winter, slowly turning them to brown. Very few disease can affect the Hornbeam.
